In 2021, Messi and Argentina won the Copa América by defeating Brazil. It was Messi’s first major title. He had everything except a World Cup championship on his CV.
After losing their first game in Qatar’s group stage against Saudi Arabia, the heat was on Argentina. After losing their first two games, Messi and company came back strong, winning their next six games and ultimately defeating the reigning World Cup winners.
The 2024 Copa América will be followed by the 2026 Men’s World Cup in the summer. Messi will always be a World Cup winner, but how long he continues to play for La Albiceleste is up in the air.
