Actor Sean Connery, who played the first James Bond on film, suffered from dementia in his final months, his wife Micheline Roquebrune revealed in an interview with The Daily Mail.
This past weekend, Mr. Connery died in the Bahamas at the age of 90. Ms. Roquebrune was married to Mr. Connery for 45 years. She said that in the months before he died, the actor “was not able to express himself.”
“It was no life for him,” she said. “At least he died in his sleep and it was just so peaceful.” In “Dr. No” (1962), “From Russia With Love” (1963), “Goldfinger” (1964), “Thunderball” (1965), “You Only Live Twice” (1967), “Diamonds Are Forever” (1971), and “Never Say Never Again,” Mr. Connery played the beloved British secret agent (1983).

Ms. Roquebrune is a French painter who was born in Morocco. In 1975, she married Mr. Connery. She told The Mail that he was a “model man” and that life without him would be “very hard.”
“He had dementia, and it took its toll on him,” Ms. Roquebrune said. But, she added, “He got his final wish to slip away without any fuss.”
Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia, which is a group of conditions that cause people to lose their memories and have trouble making decisions. Even though most older people have it, it is not a normal part of getting older.

The World Health Organization says that about 10 million more people get dementia every year. This means that about 50 million people have dementia. In the early stages, people often forget things and get lost in places they know well.
This can lead to getting lost at home, having changes in behavior, and needing help with personal care. Toward the end of the disease, a person may have trouble walking and may not be able to recognize family and friends.
After Mr. Connery died, many of the actors who have played James Bond in the past and present paid tribute to the legendary actor. In a statement on the 007 website on Saturday, Daniel Craig, who has played James Bond since 2006, said that Sean Connery had wit and charm that “could be measured in megawatts” and that he “helped create the modern blockbuster.”
Sean Connery’s family have confirmed that he had dementia – I had a feeling that was the case, given that he’d been out of the public eye. Bobby Charlton is also affected, we’ve just learned. What a cruel disease

“He will continue to influence actors and filmmakers alike for years to come,” Mr. Craig said. “My thoughts are with his family and loved ones.”
In 1969, George Lazenby played James Bond in “Her Majesty’s Secret Service.” On Sean Connery’s 90th birthday in August, Lazenby wrote on Instagram that Connery was not only “the all-time greatest 007,” but also “a man after my own heart.”
“A great actor, a great man and underappreciated artist has left us,” Mr. Lazenby wrote… Follow us only on Lee Daily for more news like this.
