The legendary San Diego State Aztecs running back Ronnie Hillman is now receiving hospice care for a rare type of cancer. Hillman, who is 31 years old, was diagnosed with renal medullary carcinoma in August, according to a statement given by his family. Malignant medullary tumors of the kidney are very uncommon. In a statement to TMZ, Hillman’s family said that the actor had tried therapy without success.
“As a family, we hope beyond hope, and we have faith that can move mountains,” the family said, per TMZ. “We also understand that God’s will is not always ours; therefore, we as a family subject ourselves to the will of our Almighty God. We need your prayers, but we also need your understanding and respect for Ronnie and our family’s privacy at this time.”

Hillman suited up at San Diego State in 2010 and 2011, before getting picked by the NFL. Hillman was a huge positive for the Aztec’s offense, scoring 36 times and carrying for 3,243 yards in his two seasons there. Hillman started 10 of the Broncos’ 16 games that year, and he led the club in rushing with 863 yards on 207 rushes and seven touchdowns en route to the team’s Super Bowl 50 victory.
