Amerie Mi Marie Rogers, formerly Ameriie, is an American-Korean singer, songwriter, record producer, actress, and novelist. She was born on January 12, 1980. Both “Touch” and her second album, “All I Have,” received high praise from critics when released in 2002.
What is Amerie’s Nationality?
Singer Amerie Mi Marie Nicholson (born January 12, 1980; formerly Rogers) is from the United States. She was raised in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, and learned to appreciate the classical arts from her mother, Mi Suk Rogers and her father, Charles Rogers. She also began learning dance at a young age and participated in talent shows.
Her family moved to Virginia when she finished high school, and she enrolled at Georgetown University, where she later earned a degree in English and Fine Arts. While residing in Washington, D.C., she met producer Rich Harrison, who had previously worked with artists like Mary J. Blige, and they started creating demos together. As a result, a deal was reached with major-label Columbia Records through Rise Entertainment.
How was Amerie’s Early Life?
Charles Rogers was born in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, to an African American father and a Korean mother. The Rogers family relocated to South Korea shortly after Amerie was born, where she spent her first three years of life. The family moved about because her father served as a chief warrant officer in the U.S. military, traveling to Alaska, Texas, Virginia, and Germany. Angela Rogers, her younger sister, is currently her attorney.
Amerie has characterized her parents as conventional, conservative, and loving Christians. She and her sister were not allowed to leave the house or use the phone on school days when they were little. The musician joined Navy ROTC while attending Georgetown University to study literature: “I wasn’t coerced into it in any way by my father. I enlisted to fund a college degree.” After quitting ROTC after her sophomore year, she finished with a B.A. in English and a Fine Arts minor in design.
