When will ‘Call the Midwife’ Season 12 Episode 1 be Available on Netflix?

The popularity of Call the Midwife isn’t going anywhere any time soon. Season 12 follows the 2022 Christmas special, and like always, creator Heidi Thomas has a tonne in store for viewers.

In typical Call the Midwife fashion, plenty of pregnancies keep the midwives of Nonnatus House busy. There is a new arrival who is likely to “ruffle feathers,” Trixie and Matthew take a significant step in thei relationship that has its share of difficulties. Lucille isn’t feeling like her usual upbeat self. There is a new arrival who is likely to “ruffle feathers.”

But when a program has been on the air as long as Call the Midwife has, people inevitably start to wonder how long it can continue to be successful.

“No one has ever said, ‘We want 10 years of Call the Midwife,” Thomas told The i. “I think I would have been traumatized if they had.” Season 13 has been confirmed, but beyond that, there’s currently no word.

“That was announced long ago, but we don’t know about 14,” Laura Main (Sister Shelagh Turner) told the Sunday Express.

“We haven’t heard anything. I honestly don’t know anything about beyond 13. Not yet. Maybe there will be an announcement when series 12 starts airing in the new year.”

“It’s an incredible privilege to be able to look back on a decade of Call the Midwife, and yet know that our journey is still very far from over,” said Thomas when seasons 12 and 13 were announced. “We are thrilled to be going on for a few more years.”

“Like Nonnatus House, we have a proud past but an even more exciting future – full of old favorites, fresh faces, higher hemlines, and new ideas. The stories we tell are like babies – they never stop coming, we love them all, and we vow to do our best by every single one.”

Unfortunately, because new episodes will now air in March, American viewers will have to wait much longer. If this is your first time watching, you should know that PBS frequently receives the shows a little later than when they appear elsewhere.

The thrilling information was shared on the show’s official Instagram account with the caption: “NEWS!!! The 12th season of Call the Midwife will premiere in the UK on January 1!”

We’re excited to let you know that the BBC has revealed the start date for our new series, which will air ONE WEEK AFTER our upcoming Christmas Special on January 1!

Who will appear in Call the Midwife season 12?

For the 12th season, most regular Call the Midwife actors ought to be back. Sadly, it appears that Sister Frances, played by Ella Bruccoleri, and Sister Hilda, portrayed by Fenella Woolgar, who were both rumored to be leaving in this year’s Christmas special, are going (at least temporarily).

Rebecca Gethings, who will play Sister Veronica, is one new actor who has joined the ensemble. She said about her character: “She puts her foot in it a lot and ruffles feathers. But she always does it for good. But she’s not shy and retiring.”

“She doesn’t wait to be invited in. She just kind of bustles in and gets going because, in terms of her ministry, she’s not worth anything unless she changes.”

Other guest stars for season 12 will be confirmed in due course.

Call The Midwife season 12 plot

After the train crash at the end of season 11, life in Poplar will usually resume in season 12. The Nonnatus House midwives will welcome a heavily pregnant Rhoda Mullucks to the maternity unit; she is understandably anxious after her last child was born with congenital disabilities in season 5 after Dr. Patrick Turner prescribed her thalidomide.

According to a prior statement made by Thomas, the following season would also detail historical medical developments and include a ventouse delivery for the first time.

“Again, we’re looking at some powerful stories about how society was changing at that time,” she said.

Of course, not all of the change will be for the better. The incendiary anti-immigration remark by Enoch Powell that led to his expulsion from the Shadow Cabinet will also have a significant impact on the forthcoming chapter.

“In the first episode of the new series, I realized the timing of that episode coincided exactly with Enoch Powell’s Rivers of Blood speech which made a huge difference, and not a very positive difference to race relations in Great Britain,” Thomas explained.

“It was a big turning point for our society and how we spoke of and behaved towards people who came here from other countries, so that was something we felt we had to tackle.”

How many more seasons of Call the Midwife will there be?

The BBC has renewed Call the Midwife for seasons 12 and 13 (2023 and 2024, respectively) which should take viewers up to 1969 or perhaps the 1970s regarding the show’s timeline.

The lasting success of Call the Midwife is a monument to the great devotion and inventiveness of its creator Heidi Thomas and its producers, Pippa Harris and Ann Tricklebank, according to Piers Wenger, director of BBC Drama.

“We are delighted to have secured the future of Call the Midwife for two further series beyond those currently in production. We look forward to enjoying more adventures for the inhabitants of Nonnatus House for years to come.”

There’s no trailer yet for Call the Midwife season 12, but we’ll keep this page updated.

What will happen in Call the Midwife season 12?

Regarding potential plotlines, Nonnatus House has no shortage of drama that could happen. Heidi Thomas, the show’s writer and creator, promised, “The stories we tell are like kids — they never stop arriving, we love them all, and we swear to do our best for every single one.” In April 1968, Nonnatus House changed.

The sisters want to make an excellent first impression on Sister Veronica, their newest recruit. Racial tensions lingered in Poplar following Enoch Powell’s shocking statement. Nancy and Trixie collaborate to care for a patient nearing the end of their life because Fred is upset that the Civil Defence Corps has been dissolved in an official letter.

In terms of the story, Poplar will go through some challenging conditions and significant events for Trixie, a recruit, and Nonnatus House.
