In a brief but heartfelt letter published on social media on Thursday, Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo bid a final Goodbye to the show’s viewers. The series regular’s role as the hospital’s namesake surgeon would be reduced, according to initial reports from August.
She commented on Instagram, “I am forever grateful and humbled by the love and support you have all shown me, Meredith GREY and the show for 19 seasons. Without the best supporters in the world, “through it all, nothing would have been possible. You are all RIDERS and you have all contributed to the ride’s exciting and iconic nature!
She said, “I love you so much and I appreciate you so much. You’ve been on the rollercoaster before, so you know the show must go on, and I’ll definitely be back. With much love and grateful appreciation, XoE. The final episode of Pompeo will premiere in February. A week after the autumn finale of the show, she sends a note.
It was revealed in August that Pompeo would leave the show early and appear in just eight of the anticipated 22 episodes in season 19. She only appeared in eight episodes throughout her time on air. After Shonda Rhimes issued her own message on Pompeo’s departure, the actress likewise acknowledged the show’s creator.
The last 19 seasons have been “such a wild trip,” Rhimes, who departed the program in 2017, wrote on her Instagram. “Without the peerless @ellenpompeo, the one and only Meredith Grey, none of it would have been possible. This is a “see you later,” not a “goodbye.” I’m excited to find out what the future holds for Ellen, Meredith, and Grey Sloan Memorial. #greysanatomy.”
