Barbara Jill Walters was an American journalist and TV host who was born on September 25, 1929 and died on December 30, 2022. Walters was a host on many TV shows, including Today, ABC Evening News, 20/20, and The View. She was known for her skill at interviews and popularity with viewers. Walters worked as a journalist from 1951 until 2015 when she stopped.
Walters started her career in the early 1960s as a writer and producer of women’s interest stories for The Today Show. As a result of her popularity with viewers, Walters got more airtime, and in 1974, she became the first woman to hold a co-host position on an American news show.
In 1976, she was the first woman to co-anchor a network evening news show with Harry Reasoner on ABC Evening News. This made her a leader for women in broadcasting. Walters worked as a producer and co-host on the ABC news show 20/20 from 1979 to 2004.
Barbara Walters’ 10 Most Fascinating People, a show that airs once a year on ABC, also made her well-known. Walters talked to every president and first lady who was in office at the time, from Richard Nixon to Barack Obama. She also talked to Donald Trump and Joe Biden, but not when they were presidents.

Walters created, produced, and co-hosted the ABC daytime talk show The View from 1997 until 2014 when she left the show. After that, she kept hosting special reports for 20/20 and a documentary series for Investigation Discovery. 2015 was the last time she was on air for ABC News.
Walters got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2007 and was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame in 1989. In 2000, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences gave her a Lifetime Achievement Award for all the work she had done.
Who is Barbara Walters Husband?
Walters was married to three different men four times. Robert Henry Katz, who ran a business and was a lieutenant in the Navy, was her first husband. They got married at The Plaza Hotel in New York City on June 20, 1955. In 1957, eleven months after the wedding, the marriage was said to be over.
Lee Guber was her second husband. He was a theatre producer and owner. They got married on December 8, 1963, and then they split up in 1976. After Walters lost three babies, she and her husband adopted a girl, Jacqueline Dena Guber (born in 1968, adopted the same year). Merv Adelson, who was the CEO of Lorimar Television, was her third husband.

They got married in 1981, but they split up in 1984. They got married again in 1986, but they split up again in 1992. In college, Walters dated the lawyer Roy Cohn. Cohn said that he asked Walters to marry him the night before she got married to Lee Guber, but Walters said that was not true.
She said that she would always love Cohn because he had helped her adopt her daughter Jacqueline. In her autobiography, Walters writes that she was also thankful to Cohn because he helped her father in court. Walters said that her father had an arrest warrant for “failure to appear” because he missed a court date in New York while the family was in Las Vegas.
Cohn was able to get the charge dropped, though. Walters was a character witness at Cohn’s 1986 trial to get his licence taken away. In the 1970s, Walters dated Alan Greenspan, who later became the head of the U.S. Federal Reserve, and in the 1990s, she was linked to U.S. Senator John Warner.

In her autobiography, “Audition,” Barbara Walters said that she had an affair with Edward Brooke, a married senator from Massachusetts, in the 1970s. No one knows for sure if Walters was also married at the time. Walters said that they broke up because they didn’t want the scandal to hurt their careers. In 2007 she dated Pulitzer Prize–winning gerontologist Robert Neil Butler.
From the late 1960s until his death in 2017, Walters was close with Tom Brokaw, Woody Allen, and Joan Rivers. He was also close with Roger Ailes, who used to run Fox News. Walters said in 2013 that she wished she had had more children.
Barbara Walters Death
Walters said in May 2010 that she would have open-heart surgery to fix a bad aortic valve. She knew she had aortic valve stenosis for a long time, even though she didn’t have any symptoms.
Walters’s spokeswoman, Cindi Berger, said four days later that the procedure to fix the bad heart valve “went well, and the doctors are very happy with the results.” In September 2010, Walters went back to The View and her Here’s Barbara show on Sirius XM. Walters stopped working on both shows for good four years later.
Walters died on December 30, 2022 at her home in Manhattan. She was 93 years old. Follow us on Lee Daily to get more news like this.
