Smokey Robinson Urges Vaccination Following Harrowing Covid-19 Hospitalization

Smokey Robinson, also known as William Robinson Jr, was born in Michigan on February 19, 1940. He is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, and former record executive director.

He was the founder and frontman of the Motown vocal group, The Miracles. Recently he was affected by the Covid-19 virus, which left him hospitalized for 11 days.

Pandemic

covid-19 is caused by infection with the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus strain. The new strain of covid-19 was first reported in Wuhan, China in December 2019. The virus has since spread to all continents.

The number of people infected changes daily even though the vaccine has arrived, but the virus develops itself to encounter the respiratory system in any condition. The best way to prevent and slow down the transmission is to be well informed about the disease and how the virus spreads.

Most of the people infected with the virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without special treatment. However, some will become ill and require medical attention.

Older people or those with underlying medical conditions like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, or cancer are more likely to develop severe illness. Anyone can get sick with covid-19 and become seriously ill or die at any age.

Interview

In a recent interview, Smokey Robinson shared his experience about his harrowing encounter. He urged his listeners about the importance of maintaining protocols to stop the spread of COVID-19.” I am very happy to share [my story] because I hope it helps someone,” Robinson said.

He added that COVID just comes on and the people who ask him today, who knew that he had covid and where did he get it, how did he get it? He doesn’t know and has no idea how he got it.

All he knew was that he looked up and he had it.”It was a horrible horrible thing and while I was going through it I wasn’t thinking about ‘Hey man, perhaps you will never get out of this hospital alive,'” Robinson continued. “I wasn’t thinking like that.

I was just thinking about [how] I got to get myself together.”He stressed the importance of protecting yourself and your loved ones because this disease can be fatal and is a terrible experience to go through and that some people go through it mildly but he was someone who went through the severe symptoms of Covid.

And when someone goes through a tough health crisis it gets very rough. He added that if it wasn’t for God’s grace he would not be here talking to everyone at present surely.

Celebrities’ Influence During Covid

On Saturday, the chief executive of Live Performance Australia, Evelyn Richardson, warned that major live shows would be unable to return until state governments permitted 85% capacity.

Amid coronavirus fears, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Lizzo, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and more celebrities are taking to social media to demonstrate social distancing and encourage others to follow their lead by staying home and avoiding crowded spaces.

Celebrities are highly influential whose actions and decisions are watched and often followed by wide audiences. Many celebrities have used their prominent social standing to offer medical advice. Celebrity advocacy can also lead to the adoption of certain health prevention behaviors.

Smokey Robinson took a significant step forward to encourage people to get vaccinated to prevent the spread of the virus.

Lessons Learned

We learned many critical lessons from the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. While there are still problems for which you need to see a doctor, the pandemic introduced a new urgency to what had been a gradual switchover to platforms like zoom for remote patient visits. “Vaccines are worth getting,” says Dr. Stoll, who had COVID-19 and experienced lingering symptoms, including chronic headaches.

She said that she had lots of conversations—and sometimes arguments—with people about vaccines and some fear the idea of side effects and she has experienced the vaccine side effects and COVID-19 side effects, and unfortunately, the side effects don’t compare to the actual illness and she can vouch for that from experience.
