Heavy snowfall brought by the snowstorm Arwen has caused 61 people to spend two nights at Britain’s highest pub in Yorkshire Dales. The guests are expected to spend another night in the pub as the roads are still unusable
The Storm Arwen Turned Deadly
The extreme weather brought by Storm Arwen has knocked out electricity to more than 6,000 houses in northern England and Scotland. Trains between York and Scotland have also been canceled.
Over the weekend, the police in northeast Scotland declared a major incident and warned that the disruption might continue for several days. The people of North Yorkshire have experienced the storm the hardest.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service stated on Sunday that they had been summoned to places like Kilburn, and High Birstwith on reports of fallen power cables. Snow and ice warnings are still in effect, as are many flood warnings along the county’s shore. Three people have been killed by being caught under falling trees.
One of the unlucky ones has been identified. On Friday, Francis Lagan, a known educationist, and civic leader were killed when a tree fell on his car while he was driving along the Dublin Road in County Antrim, Northern Ireland with his wife and children.
Condition of the People Trapped in the Pub
The pub is situated at a location that is 10 miles away from the nearest main road. However, the roads are blocked by either snow or power lines that have fallen. The owner of the pub, Mike Kenny, was the one to recommend everyone to stay in the pub rather than risking their lives.
He told the Manchester Evening News that all the guests are staying in the pub, as advised by the police. The manager of the pub said that everyone has been in a wonderful spirit.
The customers first became stranded at the Inn on Friday night. There was this tribute to the Oasis band by a band named Noasis.
With 3 feet of snow and power lines fallen to the ground, the people were unable to leave. The 61 people stranded in the pub even had to set up camps in the lounge.
Activities for the People
The Manager, Ms. Townsend, told that the people enjoyed the nights, as they were involved in different board games and even a quiz. According to her, nobody had misbehaved or drank too much to go loud.

Everybody was coming along and enjoying the time. Martin Overton, a guest at the pub, told the BBC that the atmosphere was very good in the pub as there was a lot of beer available.
His wife Stephanie told him that it was an exciting experience of being stranded and she was quite chilled, however, she was concerned about her son who was staying at his nana’s place. The group of stranded people has formed a large family and some people are not even willing to leave.
The manager has been planning for a karaoke night for the third night they spend together. The rescue team or the mountain rescuers made it through the snow to attend to one guest who needed some medical assistance with some ongoing issue.
The government and rescue officials are all in to cover the aftermaths of the snowstorm. The people at the pub are stranded, but are comfortable enough, thanks to the wonderful hosts of the pub.
The conditions of the snowstorm’s aftermath are not looking very good and it might take a few days for the rescue department to completely overcome the damage done by the Arwen storm.
