Fauci on GOP Criticism: ‘I’m Going to Be Saving Lives and They’re Going to Be Lying’

On Sunday, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Anthony Fauci, stated that Senator Ted Cruz’s move to summon him gave the impression of being partial against science.

On CBS’ “Face The Nation”, Fauci told host Margaret Brennan, “Anybody who’s looking at this carefully realizes that there’s a distinct anti-science flavor to this,” adding further “If they get up and criticize science, nobody’s going to know what they’re talking about.

But if they get up and aim their bullets at Tony Fauci — people could recognize there’s a person there.”

Allegations Are Dangerous for the Entire Scientific Community

It was further claimed by Fauci that the allegations are dangerous not just only for him but for the scientific community as well.

He stated “It’s easy to criticize, but they’re criticizing science because I represent science. That’s dangerous,” adding “To me, that’s more dangerous than the slings and the arrows that get thrown at me. I’m not going to be around here forever, but science is going to be here forever.”

When Fauci was asked whether the latest allegations are just an approach for Republican lawmakers to use him as an easy mark so that the criticism can be turned aside from the then-President Donald Trump, he responded by saying, “You have to be asleep not to figure that one out.”
