The singer previously refused to perform on football’s biggest platform in solidarity with former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who has been a free agent since March 2017 and has yet to find a new team. Kaepernick claimed that the NFL had blackballed him because of his protest of police brutality against Black people by kneeling during the national anthem.
The National Football League hired Jay-Z and Roc Nation in 2019 as “live music entertainment consultants” to advise on the Super Bowl halftime performance and contribute to the league’s activism campaign, Inspire Change, in the face of player protests and the inevitable loss of the event’s cachet.
According to Roc Nation’s website, Rihanna is not only managed by the corporation but she is also signed to the label’s record label.

According to an interview she gave to T Magazine in 2019, the singer confirmed the upcoming album will be a reggae project, as had been previously speculated, but joked about the fan-generated title. This is what I’m thinking of calling it because they keep asking me, “R9, R9, when is R9 coming out?” That’s been etched into my brain; how can I possibly accept a new moniker?”
In a recent interview with Vogue, Rihanna said, “I’m looking at my next project completely differently from the way I had wanted to put it out before,” adding: “It’s authentic, it’ll be fun for me, and it takes a lot of the pressure off.”
