This week, the bodies of eight people including five children were found shot to death in their Utah home. According to a news release from Enoch City, police officers found the bodies of the family members in their home on Wednesday while they were doing a “welfare check.”
All of the family members’ bodies were found inside the house, and all of them “appeared to have been shot,” the news release said. The dead people’s names and ages have not been made public.
“At this time, we do not believe there is a threat to the public or that there are any suspects at large,” city officials also explained. Authorities have not said when the people died, what led to the shootings, or who made the welfare call. The investigation is still going on.
Rob Dotson, the manager of the city of Enoch, said Wednesday night that the community is saddened by the deaths of the eight people.

“It’s hard to put into words what the people who live here are feeling,” Dotson said at a news conference, according to The Washington Post. “Everybody knows this family. Many of us have worked with these people at church, in the community, or in school.”
“This community at this time is hurting. They’re feeling loss; they’re feeling pain. They have a lot of questions, which is natural, and they’re here to support” Dotson also said that investigators from Enoch City, Iron County, and Cedar City are working together to figure out what happened.

In a tweet, Utah Governor Spencer Cox wrote, “Our hearts go out to all those affected by this senseless violence.” Utah Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson also offered her condolences in a statement on Twitter, writing, “What a tragedy. I’m praying for the community of Enoch tonight.”
