During a tense moment on the House of Representatives floor, a Republican member lunged at another Republican member, who then had to be stopped from getting even worse.
After the 14th House speaker vote failed, Reps-elect Mike Rogers, R-Ala., and Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., got into a fight. Gaetz and Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., were talking about whether or not McCarthy would vote for him in the next vote, and Gaetz seemed to mouth the word “committee.”

Rogers is in charge of the House Armed Services Committee, which Gaetz is on. McCarthy went back to his seat and seemed to agree. Rogers saw what was going on and then walked up to Gaetz’s row and tried to talk to him.
Rep. Richard Hudson, R-N.C., stepped in and physically stopped Rogers, pulling him back by his shoulders in front of C-SPAN’s cameras. Then it looked like Rogers yelled, “I won’t forget this!”

In the 15th and last vote, Gaetz voted “present,” which made McCarthy the official speaker. After the official count, Rep-elect Hakeem Jeffries, D-NY, who got 212 votes in the race for speaker, said a few words, welcomed McCarthy and gave the gavel to McCarthy.
