Adam Rich, best known for his role in “Eight Is Enough,” has died. He was 54. A family member told TMZ that the actor died Saturday at his home in the Los Angeles area.
A law enforcement source told the outlet that there was no foul play and that Rich’s body was found at his home by an unidentified person. The cause of death has not yet been found.
Rich was born on October 12, 1968, in Brooklyn, New York. In the 1970s, he became famous for playing Nicholas Bradford on “Eight Is Enough.” From 1977 to 1981, Dick Van Patten, Lani O’Grady, Connie Needham, Grant Goodeve, and others appeared on the ABC show.

“I think he’s why the show was a big success,” Van Patten said of his former co-star in a 2011 interview with Stephen J. Abramson for the Television Academy Foundation. “People loved him! [Fans] named a child Nicholas and everything because of him.”
He added, “He was cute, and he was a good actor. He was very natural.” Rich has also been in “Code Red,” “Dungeons & Dragons,” “Small Wonder,” “St. Elsewhere,” and “Baywatch.”

Rich has also been in the news over the years because of his problems with drugs. In 1991, he was arrested for breaking a pharmacy window to get drugs. His old TV dad, Van Patten, bailed him out of jail.
Rich had been in and out of rehab for years. In 2002, he was arrested again for driving while drunk after almost hitting a California Highway Patrol car. CBS News says that Rich denied the charges at the time, telling reporters, “I’ve been sober for 10 years.”
