Original Supermodel Tatjana Patitz From George Michael’s “Freedom” Music Video Died at Age 56

Tatjana Patitz, best known for her cameo in one of George Michael’s music videos, has died at the age of 56. The late star, who was one of the top supermodels in the 1980s and 1990s died recently, according to her agents, who confirmed the sad news today.

Tatjana was in the 1990 music video for George Michael’s hit song Freedom, along with Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, and Christy Turlington.

Anna Wintour, the editor of Vogue, said that Tatjana, who was born in Hamburg, was “the European symbol of chic” when she paid tribute to her today. Vogue is the fashionista’s flagship magazine.

The late model’s agent at the Model CoOp in New York City told publications this morning that Tatjana had died “recently,” but the cause of death has not yet been made public.

Anna Wintour, the global editorial director of Vogue, said in a tribute this morning, “Tatjana was always the European icon of cool, like Romy Schneider meets Monica Vitti.”

“She was much less well-known than her peers. She was more mysterious, more grown up, and harder to get close to, and that was part of her appeal.” Tatjana was on the covers of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and Marie Claire and modelled for Versace and Chanel.

Tatjana was in the video for Duran Duran’s Skin Trade as well as George Michael’s Freedom. In the latter, she and another model were called the “supermodels of the 1990s.” In 1993, she played a murder victim in the Sean Connery film Rising Sun.
