No, but it’s scheduled to hit shelves in the spring of 2023. Cleopatra Entertainment stated in a press release that they had purchased the U.S. rights to “Shin Ultraman” in January 2023 and that the film would be released in the spring of that year “on VOD Platforms as well as a Deluxe Home Entertainment Blu-Ray and DVD release.”
On April 12, 2023, the movie will be released on Blu-ray and DVD in Japan; in fact, there will be three different versions, each of which will have over 100 minutes of extra content.
What Is “Shin Ultraman” About?
“Shin Ultraman,” like “Shin Godzilla,” is a comedic reimagining of a classic Japanese series; in this case, it follows the adventures of the SSSP Kaiju defense task force, commanded by Kimio Tamura, as they battle the monsters known as “Kaiju” (Hidetoshi Nishijima). The so-called Ultraman crashes to Earth to rescue the day as a particularly deadly Kaiju threatens the globe.
Starring Nishijima, Takumi Saitoh (“Shin Godzilla”), and Masami Nagasawa (“Mother”), “Shin Ultraman” was directed by Shinji Higuchi (“Attack on Titan”) and written by director and screenwriter Hideaki Anno (“Shin Godzilla,” “Neon Genesis Evangelion”).
