Teenager Ashton Torgerson Involved in Terrifying Crash at the Chili Bowl

In the 11th lap of the Chili Bowl feature on Wednesday night, outside pole sitter and 16-year-old rookie midget driver Ashton Torgerson was engaged in a terrifying accident that threw him out of the car.

When Torgerson’s vehicle crashed into the outer retaining wall, he was in seventh place and his car began a barrel roll. Even as his automobile was finally coming to a halt after its flip, rescuers were already on their way.

When the race was stopped because of a red flag, the FloRacing team had to leave the scene. Minutes later, it was reported that the driver had woken up and was communicating with authorities and rescuers. The driver’s identity was announced over the PA system and FloRacing aired after a short delay.

Keeping Torgerson concealed from public view, medical personnel took an ambulance onto the track and stabilized him before transporting him inside. For many minutes, the ambulance waited in the middle of the dirt track, probably stabilizing the patient before making the trip across the track to the hospital.

There was a muted ovation as the ambulance slowly completed the lap of the track.

Crews accompanied their drivers to the track, where they set up for the remainder of the competition. The race began again without the notorious turn-one Chili Bowl Flip Count tracker, which had been switched off.

The official Chili Bowl Twitter account just tweeted:

Thankfully, the update on Torgerson’s family’s Twitter account was hopeful:
