Lisa Marie Presley, the only child of Elvis and Priscilla Presley, passed away on Thursday, her mother said, hours after being hospitalized for what seemed to be a heart arrest. At 54, she was well into middle age.
In a statement issued to CNN, Priscilla Presley said, “Priscilla Presley and the Presley family are shocked and devastated by the tragic death of their beloved Lisa Marie,” They ask for privacy at this time, but are extremely appreciative of everyone’s love, prayers, and support.
According to a post by Lisa Marie Presley‘s mother on Instagram, her daughter was taken to the hospital earlier in the day. Keep her and our family in your thoughts and prayers. The prayers of the world’s people are with us, and we beg for solitude at this time, the message said.
On Thursday, TMZ broke the story that Lisa Marie Presley had been admitted to the hospital. Kaitlyn Aldana, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department, told CNN that at 10:37 a.m. local time, firefighters were sent to the 5000 block of Normandy Dr. in Agoura Hills after receiving reports of a cardiac arrest.
Privacy regulations prevented Aldana from disclosing the patient’s identity, but she did say that she had been brought to a nearby hospital at 11:17 a.m. A representative for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department informed CNN that deputies responded to a medical emergency this morning, but they would not reveal the identity of the patient.
