Producers Guild Awards 2023

Producers Guild Awards 2023 TV and Film Nominations Announced

The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles will host the 34th annual Producers Guild Awards on February 25. The Producers Guild of America has revealed the 2023 Producers Guild Awards film and television nominees.

Avatar: The Way of Water, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Elvis, The Fabelmans, and other films have received nominations for the Darryl F. Zanuck Award, the biggest prize of the evening and a traditionally strong predictor of the best picture Oscar. Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio and Marcel the Shell with Shoes On have received nominations for the animated category.

Unexpectedly, A24’s The Whale garnered a nomination despite not receiving any other guild or critics group nods, aside from Brendan Fraser and Hong Chau’s star nominations and receiving mixed to negative reviews.

Another snub: Despite having lots of options, no films in the top category were directed by women. Movies like Women Talking, The Woman King, She Said, and Aftersun have been campaigning for the Oscars all season. Notably, Avatar, Wakanda Forever, Glass Onion, and Maverick—all sequels to big-budget movies—made a list.

Seven of the previous ten PGA winners won the best picture Academy Award; for example, CODA won both the PGA and the best picture Oscar the last year, while Nomadland received the top accolade from both organizations the year before. However, in 2020, Parasite won the most significant award at the Academy Awards, while in 1917 won the PGA.

In their respective TV categories, The White Lotus, Severance, Abbott Elementary, Barry, and Only Murders in the Building won nominations.

Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, The Amazing Race, and Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls are among the nominees for live entertainment and reality television.

All That Breathes, Fire of Love, Navalny, and The Territory were among the documentaries that received nominations from the PGA last month. The nominees for the sports, children’s, and short-form program categories have also been previously revealed by the guild.

The guild will also present Till with the Stanley Kramer Award, Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy with the Milestone Award, and Tom Cruise with the David O. Selznick Achievement Award at the awards ceremony in February.
