As quarterback for the Gophers in 1975 and 1976, Dungy was named MVP both years and later received the Big Ten Medal of Honor in 1977.

Although Tony Dungy was not selected in the draught, the Pittsburgh Steelers signed him as a free agent. The squad retrained him as a defensive back, and he played for three seasons in the NFL, with his best year coming in 1978, when he made six interceptions and helped the Steelers win Super Bowl XIII.

After Terry Bradshaw and Mike Kruczek were injured against the Houston Oilers in 1977, Tony Dungy entered the game as the backup quarterback. As far as we know, he is the only active NFL player with both an interception and an interception pass in the same game.
