Why Hellboy Holds a Special Place in David Harbour’s Heart?

Since Hellboy has been a fan favourite for decades, the 2019 film starring David Harbour felt like a wasted opportunity. Despite having been directed by Guillermo del Toro and starring Ron Perlman, the two previous live-action adaptations of the character fell flat at the box office.

Harbour recently revealed during a tour of his home that he keeps a framed photo from the project in his closet, joking that it keeps him humble, despite the fact that the 2019 film was both a critical and financial disappointment for a number of reasons.

Harbour joked, “Just whenever I’m feeling particularly good about myself, I like to always remember where I came from” as he pulled the framed photo of himself from the film out of his closet during a tour of his home for Architectural Digest.

Although the films starring Perlman didn’t do particularly well at the box office, fans still have a soft spot for them. However, when it was announced that any future picture starring the character wouldn’t star Perlman or originate from del Toro, audiences were understandably sceptical.

Fans were confident in Harbour’s ability to carry the film because of the recognition he received for his part on Stranger Things, but many were concerned about the film’s quality because of the R rating.

Maid the headlines:

Unfortunately, the movie has only 17 percent positive reviews on the review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, confirming the worst fears. After the film’s poor reception, rumours began to circulate regarding the film’s production difficulties, particularly those that occurred between director Neil Marshall and producers Lloyd Levin and Lawrence Gordon.

Harbour has already stated there is very little chance of ever getting a sequel film, despite the character’s extensive mythology in the comics. Harbour told ComicBook.com in early 2019 that “I don’t think there’ll be much of a light.” “I know in the culture at large, I don’t think it was very well received, but I know there are a lot of people who reach out to me who really loved it and really enjoyed the new take, and were just happy to see him back on the screen.”

After making his debut in Black Widow as the Red Guardian, a character he will play again in the next Thunderbolts film, Harbour has switched to a different comic book series.
