Armie Hammer is once more in the news after being accused of s*xual misbehavior (and possibly cannibalism) a year and a half ago. The scandalized actor is supposedly no longer receiving financial support from his affluent family, has changed careers, and now works as a time-share salesman at a Cayman Islands resort. Why is it getting more difficult to tell the difference between reality and The White Lotus?
We’ve put together a timeline of the accusations against the Call Me By Your Name actor, his alleged victim’s statements, and his whereabouts leading up to an alleged $67,000 unpaid balance to AmEx in case you’re not quite sure how we got here — or if you made the wise decision to mute Hammer’s name on Twitter years ago.

Elizabeth Chambers Divorce
July 10, 2020: Armie Hammer will have been acting for more than ten years by the middle of 2020. He is best known for his roles as a wealthy jerk in Gossip Girl, wealthy twins in The Social Network, and a tender, a tan American man in the Oscar-nominated Call Me By Your Name.
He is also famous for the strange video of his son sucking on his toes. Then, on July 10, he and his wife of ten years, Elizabeth Chambers, post identical Instagram messages announcing their divorce. 13 years spent as best friends, soulmates, companions, and finally parents, according to Chambers. “It has been an incredible journey, but together, we’ve decided to turn the page and move on from our marriage.”
According to legal records obtained by the Blast, Hammer reportedly relocates back to Los Angeles after declaring their split from one another. The duo had been quarantining in the Cayman Islands. Chambers reportedly pledges that she and the children would soon return to the United States while asking for primary physical custody of their two children.
On October 7, 2020, Hammer starts a new hobby: remodeling houses. He talks about returning to the United States and restoring “an old motel out in the desert” with a friend in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel. He queries Kimmel, “Do you believe I had anything else better going on?”
On October 15, 2020, Hammer’s divorce becomes a bit more complicated. He claims that since returning to Los Angeles in July, he hasn’t seen his children and is asking for shared custody in a court document. “However, Elizabeth initially informed me that the airports were closed when I asked her when she would be returning home. Then I learned from her lawyers that while there were only a few planes available, she and our kids will return to Los Angeles on the first flight in October,” he writes for People. Several weeks into October have passed, and they still haven’t arrived back.
25 November 2020: Hammer is expected to travel back to the Cayman Islands to spend Thanksgiving with Chambers and their children, but a source tells People that he is having trouble leaving the United States.
1 January 2021: Tweeted by Hammer. Although I’m not sure it matters, it is undoubtedly ominous.
2021 is going to kneel down before me and kiss my feet because this year I’m the boss of my own year. 2020 was a cheap shot no one was expecting. Now I know what we are up against and it’s time to go to war. Know thy enemy, know thyself…. and exploit the differences.

Start of the Allegations
On January 12, 2021, a woman going under the handle @houseofeffie posts on Instagram that she had an affair with Hammer for four years during which time he allegedly sent her violent texts that included references to cannibalism, rape fantasies, and his desire to consume her blood.
She posts a selection of texts and screenshots that she purportedly exchanged with Hammer as well as correspondence from his other ex-wives.
In one Instagram Story, she says, “Women approached me with their affair stories as we talked, overwhelmed with grief, for days and nights without sleeping or eating, with some ending up in the ER,”
A day later, on January 13, 2021, Josh Duhamel will take Hammer’s position in the J. Lo film Shotgun Wedding. In a statement to Variety, he says,
“I’m not responding to these bullshit claims but in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for 4 months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic,” he tells Variety in a statement. “Lionsgate is supporting me in this and I’m grateful to them for that.”
14 January 2021: According to Courtney Vucekovich, an app founder who claims she dated Hammer in 2020 from June to October, the actor subjected her to emotional abuse, and s*xual coercion, and made her feel uncomfortable, according to “Page Six.”
“He did some things with me that I wasn’t comfortable with. For God knows what reason, he convinced me that these things were OK and he put me in some dangerous situations where I was not OK, where he was heavily drinking, and I wasn’t drinking that way and it scared me. I didn’t feel comfortable,” adds Vucekovich.
She doesn’t vouch for @houseofeffie’s posts as being genuine, but their assertions are comparable.
More screenshots from Hammer’s private Instagram account, which contained multiple images and videos of women in servitude, start circulating online on January 15, 2021. (Hammer also stated his preference for BDSM in a few now-resurfaced interviews from the years preceding 2020.)
“my ex (for a very good reason) wife is refusing to come back to america with my children.” He continues, “there are a few silver linings. Like f*cking Ms. Cayman again while I’m down there.”
When Hammer is compelled to apologize to the Miss Cayman Islands Universe Committee and the genuine Miss Cayman, he admits that the story is his own. “I would like to clarify that the person in my video, which was stolen from my private Instagram, is not Miss Cayman,” he tells a local publication. “I am genuinely sorry for any confusion my foolish attempt at humor may have caused.” I sincerely apologize for any confusion my clumsy effort at humor may have brought on. However, there has been no response to the cannibalistic claims.
January 25, 2021: Hammer’s ex-girlfriend Paige Lorenze, 24, who allegedly dated him for four months in 2020, supports his exes’ claims. According to Lorenze, Hammer reportedly branded and bruised her, forced her into a s*xual act, and took explicit pictures of her without her permission.
“I received a direct message claiming that Armie had sent me photographs of me restrained that I was unaware of. I had no idea the pictures were there or what they looked like, Lorenze says “He would talk about it like a traditional BDSM relationship, but it wasn’t. This was way outside and beyond that.”
The charges are refuted by one of Hammer’s attorneys, who claims that “any encounters with this person” were “entirely consensual.”
Hammer abandons The Offer, a Godfather spinoff produced by Paramount+, on January 28, 2021.
February 1, 2021: In a message on Instagram, Chambers expresses her support for all assault and abuse victims and her request for “kindness and respect” as she prioritizes her priorities, which include her family and her work. She writes, “I didn’t realize how much I didn’t know.”
The Los Angeles Police Department starts an investigation into Hammer on February 3, 2021, however, this won’t be made public until after.
“We can confirm that Armie Hammer is the main suspect in an alleged s*xual assault investigation that was initiated on Feb. 3 of this year,”

On March 11, 2021, Vanity Fair releases a weird bombshell article on the Hammer family that describes Hammer’s Cayman Islands childhood and divulges a number of upsetting facts about his ancestors. For instance, it is claimed that his grandfather “killed a guy inside his Los Angeles house over a gambling debt and purported advances on his wife.” Yikes.
March 18, 2021: Effie, who may be the same person behind the @houseofeffie Instagram account, comes out at a news conference with women’s rights lawyer Gloria Allred and claims that Hammer viciously raped her “over the course of four hours” in April 2017. “I thought that he was going to kill me,” Effie says. Hammer’s lawyer, Andrew Brettler, says their relationship was “completely consensual.”

May 31, 2021: According to various people who spoke to Vanity Fair, Hammer reportedly leaves the Cayman Islands at the end of May and enrolls in a Florida treatment center for “drug, alcohol, and s*x troubles.” According to the insiders, Chambers went with him to the airport and fully approves of his decision to put his recuperation first.
The Whole Time-Share Thing in Caymans
On July 14, 2022, Hammer’s identity reappears on Twitter after a very quiet year when multiple users, including the author Muna Mire, allege he is employed as a concierge at a Cayman Islands resort. There are some receipts as well, with a flyer stating that Armie Hammer, “your personal concierge,” will “help you obtain the very best from your holiday” and pictures of what appear to be Hammer in uniform. Variety is informed by the hotel that Hammer does not work there, but various sources dispute this.
“He is working at the resort and selling timeshares. He is working at a cubicle,” one insider tells Variety. “The reality is he’s totally broke and is trying to fill the days and earn money to support his family.” The source, who asked to remain anonymous, says he’s been working on the island to be near his children, who are still living in the Caymans with Chambers. Another source, also anonymous, tells People that he is working at the resort “because he needs the money” and “his dad won’t help him anymore and he’s been cut off, so he got to work.”
What have representatives for Hammer to say about any of this? Brettler claims in a statement to People that he “doesn’t know anything about” Hammer’s claimed profession but contends that, if true, “I think it’s disgusting that the media seems to be humiliating him for having a ‘regular job’.” However, he does admit that the flier is a fake.

— MARK MORAN™️ (@itsmarkmoran) July 21, 2022
Hammer is observed in Los Angeles on July 19, 2022, with Chambers and his children. He has reportedly been residing at Robert Downey, Jr.’s home for a number of weeks, according to “Page Six,” which basically refutes the entire “hotel employment” notion. I’m sure there will be more shortly.
On September 2, 2022, Discovery+ debuted the three-part documentary series House of Hammer, which explored Hammer’s familial history and ties. Courtney Vucekovich and Julia Morrison, two of Hammer’s previous girlfriends, as well as Hammer family members were interviewed for the series.
The first episode is devoted to Hammer’s personal relationships and how they developed through manipulation and love bombing. The second episode talks about Armand Hammer’s legacy and how the family as a whole was impacted by generational trauma.
The last episode also makes an effort to provide some closure by bringing Armie’s aunt Casey and Vucekovich together to talk about their interactions with the Hammer family. The Hammer family’s attempt to suppress Casey, allegations of impropriety from former employees, and threatening notes reportedly left by Hammer in a victim’s car are among the most significant findings.
On September 4, 2022, Effie, one of Hammer’s earliest detractors, told the Los Angeles Times that she declined to take part in the House of Hammer documentary because she thought it was exploitative. She says, “It is extremely inappropriate of you to exploit such a tragic, vulnerable time in many people’s lives with no regard whatsoever for our healing process and privacy,” After revealing her claims on her Instagram account in early 2021, Effie—who chose not to provide her last name out of fear of harassment—started the continuing LAPD investigation.
She is currently the only woman to publicly accuse Hammer of rape. She did not participate in the series, but her claims are evident throughout via screenshots from Instagram and a press conference video from 2021 in which she sobs inconsolably and claims that Hammer s*xually assaulted her in April 2017. “The way they’ve been exploiting my trauma is disgusting,” she says. “When I keep screaming ‘no’ and they keep going, saying they don’t need my permission, they remind me of Armie.”
Elli Hakami and Julian Hobbs, the team that started working on the show shortly after the LAPD started looking into the actor, claimed that they chose not to speak with Effie in order to let her case develop without interfering with an ongoing investigation.
They contend that Effie’s screenshots and videos are included because they serve as the “critically important” to the story and the timeline of events as the “match that lit the fire.” “We feel we actually have an obligation to tell the stories,” they tell the L.A. Times. “If you were to stop making films because someone said they didn’t want a film being made, you would never make a film. The reality is not everyone gets onboard films.”
September 7, 2022: The documentary draws flak for showing what appears to be a bite mark on television. Courtney Vucekovich, the accuser, describes her encounters with Hammer in relation to a picture of what she claims to be a mark left behind during se*ual practices, including biting and BDSM.
Over the picture, Vucekovich comments, “I suppose Armie took the picture.” He bites really forcefully. And he advises you to wear them as a badge of honor, almost as if he has persuaded you that you are fortunate to have them. When several viewers noted that the mark matches a photo of a bite tattoo they discovered on Pinterest, viewers started to doubt the authenticity of the image.
Following questions about the photograph’s veracity, Discovery + substituted another image from Vucekovich. A representative for Talos Films, the production firm that created the series, told People on September 6 that “We take seriously the obligation of representing victims’ tales.” “We immediately started looking into fresh information about this series and will rapidly implement any necessary improvements,” the statement continued. Reps for House of Hammer have been contacted by Vulture for comment.
Vucekovich claims that the photo accidentally made it into the docuseries in reaction to the bite-mark gaffe because it was saved in her text conversation with the Call Me By Your Name actor. According to her, being “love-bombed” involves receiving numerous photographs quickly one after the other. “I received a tonne of messages during my time with Armie, along with a tonne of pictures and videos.
Given that I had dozens of images showing his abuse of my body, I thought the bite mark in the photo Armie sent within our archived text thread was of me more than a year ago. In a letter to Vanity Fair on September 4, Hammer’s attorney, Andrew Brettler, denied all allegations of impropriety and insisted that the actor’s relationships were “fully consensual, discussed and agreed upon in advance, and mutually participating.”
26 October 2022: Hammer needs to put in some serious supposed work at the alleged time-share job if he wants to avoid having to pay over $60k in debt, according to American Express. According to People, Hammer’s account has $66,935.07 in outstanding “purchases, balance transfers, and/or cash advances” that the credit card company is suing him for. In 2011, he opened the account. TMZ reports that Elizabeth Chambers and the co-owner of the account with the over $67,000 outstanding statement, and that “it’ll be resolved as they iron out the last aspects of the divorce.”
