Marv was “diagnosed with stomach cancer and multiple myeloma cancer,” according to a GoFundMe website created to aid the former NFL player in fighting his illness. “As with everything he sets out to do, he is working hard to defeat this cancer,” the website continued to inform friends and followers.
In fact, supporters reacted to social media to honor the “fighting hard” attitude they saw on the field in 1975. The Steelers were able to win 16-6 thanks to a fumble recovery by Marv.
Marv leaves behind his wife of 46 years, Sandy, two sons, and four grandchildren, according to Steelers Nation. The GoFundMe page for the Kansas native referred to him as “a true inspiration, a fighter, a hard worker, a great family man, and a friend to all that know him.”
Fans will recall the Steelers for the outstanding play, which is currently receiving praise online and will live on in the hearts of fans as a lasting tribute to Marv.
The Steelers would not have won one of their six Super Bowl championship crowns without him and, curiously enough, Franco, who also played a significant role in ensuring a successful outcome for the Super Bowl game.
