The Legend of Vox Machina Season 2 Ending Explained

The Legend of Vox Machina Season 2 Ending Explained: What Happened in it?

After twelve episodes of dungeons, dragons, and deadly battles against fantastical creatures, Season 2 of The Legend of Vox Machina came to a conclusion. The first season of the critically acclaimed animated adaptation of Critical Role’s original Dungeons & Dragons campaign explored the ways in which our personal histories and the choices we’ve made affect who we are today. The second season shifted gears and focused on the bright future of our heroes, examining how each member of Vox Machina is bound by fate and destined to save Exandria.

The exciting showdown in the second season finale between Vox Machina and the black dragon Umbrasyl (voiced by Matthew Mercer) highlighted this repeating motif. Even if the Chroma Conclave is still a danger, Vox Machina is better prepared than ever to battle the legendary dragons.

Finally, the second season of The Legend of Vox Machina ends on a cliffhanger that is equally as unsettling as the one that ended in Season 1. Now that the second season of The Legend of Vox Machina can be watched in its entirety on Prime Video, let’s examine the events of the season two finale in detail.

The Legend of Vox Machina Season 2 Ending Explained

The Assault on the Chroma Conclave

Season 1 of The Legend of Vox Machina concludes with an assault on Emon by the four remaining great ancient dragons of the Chroma Conclave. The Chroma Conclave is an alliance of beings that are normally in conflict with one another, and it has quickly grown to become one of the most powerful powers in all of Exandria. To add insult to injury, the dragons burned down Emon after Vox Machina slaughtered Brimscythe (David Tennant), the Chroma Conclave’s youngest and weakest member.

Beginning with this episode, our protagonists in Season 2 of The Legend of Vox Machina will be on the run from Emon as they conserve their energy for future use. As soon as Vox Machina realizes that it is their responsibility to destroy the Chroma Conclave, they begin their search for the Vestiges of Divergence, ancient weapons forged during a period when gods bestowed their talents onto their champions.

While Vox Machina currently lacks the strength to take on the Chroma Conclave, an upgrade from the Vestiges could give them what they need to defeat their scaly foes. They didn’t realize it at the time, but the search for the Vestiges would reveal how fate had brought together every member of the adventuring group.

What Happened in The Legend of Vox Machina?

In Season 2 of Vox Machina, Vax’ildan (Liam O’Brien), who wears the Deathwalker’s Ward armor, is the first character to receive a significant upgrade. As Vex’ahlia (Laura Bailey) explores a tomb in pursuit of this Vestige, she sets off on a fatal trap. Vex’s soul is being taken by the Goddess of Death, commonly known as the Matrone of Ravens.

But Vax strikes a deal with the goddess, trading his own life for that of his sister. Vax’s offer is accepted, and the goddess takes him on as her Champion. As a result, Vax is outfitted with armor that greatly improves his agility and helps him avoid harm. When Vax accepts his destiny as the Champion of Death, the armor awakens to its full potential, granting him the ability to fly and making him even more nimble than before.

Despite the fact that Keyleth (Marisha Ray) doesn’t end up with a Vestige of her own in Season 2, she does gain some sort of enhancement in the course of the story. As part of their investigation into the devastation left behind by the Chroma Conclave, the party travels to Pyrah, the homeland of the Fire Ashari.

Thordak, leader of the Chroma Conclave and voiced by Lance Reddick, is the subject of their investigation. Neither Thordak nor any other warrior in Tal’Dorei’s history has ever been able to defeat him. Therefore, many years before the major events of The Legend of Vox Machina, a band of heroes did what had to be done and imprisoned the dragon in the Elemental Plane of Fire.

A portal to the Elemental Plane of Fire was left open in the city of Pyrah, allowing an army of searing creatures to enter the Material Plane with the help of Thordak. Keyleth must master fire and become an avatar of the element in order to heal the chasm. In their war against the Chroma Conclave, the druid of Vox Machina can now temporarily transform into a massive beast formed of flames.

Umbrasyl vs. Vox Machina

Percy (Taliesin Jaffe) constructs a gigantic trap in Westruun with the help of the Herd of Storms to keep Umbrasyl on the ground after he comes to collect his treasure. After Vex shoots an arrow into the trap and catches Umbrasyl, the battle against the powerful dragon begins in Westruun.

Vax and Scanlan, attempting to restrain Umbrasyl’s might, sneak into the dragon’s lair and slash his stomach open from the inside with a sword. Umbrasyl, despite Vox Machina’s best attempts, manages to escape and return to his lair before being severely injured.

Grog attacks Umbrasyl with his axe as he’s tethered to the rope, and he’s lifted into the air. For the time being, Vax and Scanlan are still trapped inside the monster. The remaining members of Vox Machina quickly follow Umbrasyl in pursuit of their comrades. Vex flies on her broom of magic, while Kayleth transforms into a massive eagle to lift Percy and Pike.

When Grog is knocked to the ground by Umbrasyl, he doesn’t give up the fight in midair. Titanstone Knuckles are what save Goliath from certain death. As a result of using her power to partially heal him, Pike will be significantly less effective in the upcoming fight.

Meanwhile, Vax and Scanlan make it out of the beast’s stomach via a flesh wound and make their way to safety. After accepting his role as the Champion of Death, Vax is able to save himself and Scanlan by growing wings.

After reorganizing, Vox Machina decides to invade Umbrasyl’s stronghold and kill him. Scanlan is giving up the fight because he knows they are hopelessly outnumbered and underequipped.

But Vax reveals how the gods and fate favor their goal, so they must accept whatever comes next. Umbrasyl utilizes his invisibility to lay his own trap after Vax enters the lair to scout and is surprised by him. The group rushes to his aid and fights the dragon to save him. To hurt the dragon, even Grog, who has a damaged leg, tries his best.

In Vox Machina, Umbrasyl is slowly but surely taking off the heroes one by one. They pulled blood from the powerful beast, too, but it’s obvious they’re doomed. There’s no point in hiding, either, because Umbrasyl can track Vox Machina at any time using Mythcarver to determine exactly where the other Vestiges are?

In the face of certain death, Scanlan turns his back on his buddies and flees. But in the final split second, he thinks of his daughter and how his instinct to run has harmed others in the past.

So, he returns to the dragon’s lair under cover of darkness, takes Mythcarver from Umbrasyl, and uses the Vestige to stab the dragon in the eye. Unexpectedly, Scanlan is the one to deal the killing blow on Umbrasyl, bringing down the second member of the Chroma Conclave.

Inadvertent Supporter

Following a toast, the remaining Whitestone and Emon commanders and heroes collapse on the table. Left alone with Yennen (Gina Torres), one of the dragons of the Chroma Conclave, Raishan (Cree Summer), she reveals herself to be Vox Machina.

Here is some related information about the entertainment category:

Raishan has a covert audience with Vox Machina because she, like her rival Thordak, wants to bring down the genuine Yennen. She advises the heroes to forge an uneasy alliance with Raishan in order to take down the Cinder King, as even with Vestiges, they are no match for the surviving members of the Chroma Conclave.

Raishan explains that Throdak is constructing a nest in which he plans to spawn an army of dragons, which is why he ordered the dragons of the Chroma Conclave to collect gold.

This means that Vox Machina may have to collaborate with Raishan to save Tal’Dorei, despite her role in Emon’s destruction. All we have to do now is wait for Season 3 to be released.
