Regé-Jean Page was the first victim, and now his co-star is: The second Bridgerton lead to declare she won’t be returning for a later season of the popular Netflix drama is actress Phoebe Dynevor. In a Screen Rant interview from January’s Sundance Film Festival, when the actress’s movie Fair Play had its world premiere, a reporter inquired as to whether her Bridgerton character, Daphne Basset née Bridgerton, would experience any “interesting dynamics coming up” in season 3.
Unfortunately, not in season 3, she said. “Possibly in the near future. But I’m just eager to watch as a viewer for season 3. Daphne must politely decline any invitations from the tonne this year as it appears that she has had her fill of debutante festivities. In season 2, her husband Simon Basset (Page) was noticeably absent, and Dynevor’s Daphne appeared only sometimes as she tried to convince her brother Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) to get married.

Both Page and Dynevor have film roles to keep them busy: Page is starring in the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons adaptation, and Dynevor is a lead in Fair Play, which was already acquired by Netflix for a whopping $20 million. The fictional couple probably has their hands full with a new baby, and anyway, both Page and Dynevor have film roles to keep them busy.
Dynevor is obviously left the door open for a potential return to the series that launched her career, but Page has emphasized that the concept is pointless from his perspective. He’s even willing for Netflix to recast the Duke of Hastings, giving a different actor the opportunity to play the part for which he’s (now) best known.
“They’re free to do as they wish,” Page said in July 2022 to Variety’s Marc Malkin. At the conclusion of season 1, Shonda [Rhimes, executive producer of Bridgerton], and I had a great talk. On that one, we were pleased with how well we stuck the landing. Dynevor seemed to be content—at least momentarily—to accompany her screen spouse outside.
