Who Killed Malcolm in You Season 4? The Killer Behind the Eat the Rich Murders!

The wait has ended. You have returned at last, bringing even more murder and mayhem. Joe Goldberg is not in charge this time, though.

Joe moves to London in You season 4, part 1, after staging his own demise. Here, he adopts the persona of English professor Jonathan Moore and joins a prestigious social group.

However, things quickly start to go wrong. In the opening scene, Joe passes out due to alcohol and awakens to find his colleague Malcolm dead on his dining room table. Joe initially thinks he killed Malcolm, so he disposes of the body right away.

However, at the conclusion of the episode, he gets a text from an unknown individual who confesses to murdering Malcolm and leaving Joe to cope with the fallout.

The murderer’s identity remains a mystery for the remainder of You season 4, and they are dubbed the Eat the Rich killer.

But who is the Eat the Rich killer, and when does Joe learn their identity? What we learn about their identities is as follows.

The Eat the Rich killer starts murdering more and more of Joe’s social circle during part 1. Following Malcolm, both Simon and Gemma die. Joe commits a small amount of murder as well. Vic, Adam’s personal bodyguard, suspects Joe of trying to kill Adam, so in an effort to defend himself, Joe kills Vic.

In episode 5, Joe and his wealthy friends visit Lady Phoebe’s country mansion. They start to believe Joe is the Eat the Rich Killer while they are there, so Roald follows Joe into the woods. Roald is knocked out by Joe, but Rhys Montrose then enters the scene and also knocks Joe out.

After pinning Roald and Joe in an underground chamber on Lady Phoebe’s property, Rhys admits that he is the murderer and that Joe’s earlier killings served as his inspiration. Then he asks Joe to kill Roald so he can blame him for all the fatalities.

Joe seems to concur, but Rhys confesses that he originally intended to blame Joe for the murder of Malcolm when he realizes that he won’t kill Roald. The only time Joe looked into him and considered collaborating with him was after he got rid of the body.

Due to Joe’s resistance, Malcolm decides to put the room where he’s trapped Joe and Roald on fire. He suggests they can try to collaborate once more if Joe is able to survive. Roald is saved by Joe’s escape, but the entire estate is destroyed.

Joe returns to London at the end of Part 1 and observes on television that Rhys has formally declared his campaign for mayor of London. To find out whether Joe stops Rhys, exposes him, or decides to collaborate with him, we’ll have to wait till part 2.
