Rachel and Dave Hollis built a media empire around their marriage, but they ended up getting a divorce in 2020. Here, we look at what went wrong.
Dave Hollis, who used to be in charge of distribution for Disney, died at the age of 47. Variety says that he died on February 11, 2023, at his home in Austin, Texas. He had recently been hospitalized for problems with his heart.
Rachel Hollis talked about Dave’s untimely death in an Instagram post that was a black square with white writing that said, “We are devastated. I have no words and my heart is too broken to find them. Please wrap the kids up in prayers as we try and navigate through the unthinkable.” Together, they had four children.

When Did the Couple’s Love Story End?
Rachel wrote a long post in June 2020 to say that she and Dave had decided to end their 16-year marriage.
She wrote, “We have worked endlessly over the last three years to make this work and have come to the conclusion that it is healthier and more respectful for us to choose this as the end of our journey as a married couple.”
“I’ll be honest, the last month has been one of the most awful of our lives. I want to be strong and bold and optimistic for you now, but every ounce of my energy is reserved for being those things for my children,” the lifestyle influencer said.
She also said that they “remain dear friends” and that they would continue to raise their children together and run their business as partners.
Dave Hollis’s Instagram Post Reveals a Different Story
About a month later, on July 26, 2020, Dave posted on Instagram to tell his side of the story. That post has since been taken down.
Dave said in It’s Fine, I’m Fine that Rachel started the divorce with him, which was two days after their 16th wedding anniversary. For example, Hollis’s vows were renewed every five years while they were married.
His post was a picture from their 16th wedding anniversary. It said that he had posted the picture in May but took it down two days later.
In the caption, he wrote, “Rae told [him] she didn’t want to be married anymore. That [he] could only become the man and she the woman [they] were each truly meant to be… apart.”
Dave said, “So that post with memories we’d made left me embarrassed for a vision of a future that wasn’t shared,”
Rachel and her husband had reached the end of their journey together. After much thought and consideration, they had come to the difficult decision to part ways. But despite the sadness of their parting, they both knew it was the right decision for them.
With love and understanding, they decided to take this next step in their lives and move forward in peace, hoping for a brighter future. Stay tuned with leedaily.com for more updates.
