Pink Explains Why It Wasn’t “Fun To Make” The “Lady Marmalade” Music Video

In an apparent reference to a conflict with one of her co-stars, Pink placed “Lady Marmalade,” her well-known collaboration with Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, and Mya, the bottom of a list of her favorite music videos.

For BuzzFeed UK, the “What About Us” singer listed 12 of her “most memorable music videos,” placing her 2001 cover of “Lady Marmalade” with Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, and Ma at the bottom of the list. When prompted, she responded, “Making it wasn’t really enjoyable. I love having fun, and there was a lot of fuss and personality clashes. Kim and Ma were great.”

In the interview on February 17, Pink continued, “I suppose it is legendary, but I recall crying repeatedly because the makeup was irritating to my skin. It was simply… On that day, some bothersome things occurred.”

Pink has already discussed past conflicts with Christina that started during the “Lady Marmalade” recording. Pink stated in a 2009 VH1 Behind the Music special, “Ron Fair, a record executive, entered. He said, “What’s the high part?” without saying hello to any of us.

Which part has the most singing? Christina will assume that role.” Pink went on, “I greeted everyone by standing up. What’s up? What a sweet gesture to introduce yourself. Pink here. She won’t be participating in that part. I believe that is the purpose of the conference.”

Eventually, the two vocalists put their disagreements aside and even collaborated once more. Pink stated on See What Happens Live With Andy Cohen that she and Christina reconciled while filming The Voice the year before when she was an advisor to the “Beautiful” singer’s team. Pink also tweeted in 2017 that “I [love] Xtina, we’ve made apologies.”

A physical altercation between Pink and Christina once occurred at a club, according to Pink, who also revealed to host Andy Cohen that it was “hilarious” at the time. The “What a Girl Wants” singer answered the charge in 2019 during her own visit on WWHL.

She instructed Andy to stare at both her and me. “I would not attack her. She can beat my ass, you know, she’s that good. Are you serious? She was capable of beating me then.”

Christina also explained how their argument started. She admitted that she “knows she had some feelings or whatever about how the recording of ‘Lady Marmalade’ went down and all that, and I know the actual video, she intimidated me because she was a little heckling me in the audience, a little bit behind the director and I was like, ‘Oh, what’s going on?'”

Christina went on: “She used to act in that manner. She is, however, a totally different person now that she is a mother and she is like, cool.”
