After a Health Crisis Ashton Kutcher Drops 12 Pounds in Marathon Training

He’s lost a lot of weight. After having a health crisis, Ashton Kutcher shed 12 pounds while training for the New York City Marathon in 2022.

“The biggest change physically has been the transfer of muscle mass from the upper body to the lower body. I’ve lost about 12 pounds, he told Entertainment Tonight.

Kutcher, now 44, said his wife Mila Kunis has been “very supportive.”

“Surrounding myself with a support system makes hard things much easier,” he shared. “Setting a pace that you can sustain is not the same thing as working as hard as you can.”

To prepare for the marathon, the actor will be included in a new Peloton series called “Our Future Selves,” which will premiere with 16 interviews.

The series will feature celebrities including Kim Kardashian and Natalie Portman. Kenny Chesney, Allyson Felix, Chris Paul, Jon Batiste, and Thomas Rhett are among the other famous people that will be included in the series.

“We’re ready to create some electricity in this place,” Kutcher said.

As for how he stays motivated, the “That ’70s Show” star said, “My baseline ‘why’ boils down to leaving life better than what was given to me. My 7-year-old daughter Wyatt and 5-year-old son Dimitri are my daily inspiration.

Kutcher, who had earlier declared his intention to participate in the race to benefit his nonprofit Thorn, now expressed optimism that his involvement in the marathon will make a difference.

“The marathon itself is an elevating opportunity for the work that we have been doing for over a decade with Thorn. A chance to show the folks that have been working so hard to make our vision reality, that I’m in it with them and willing to go to the last mile,” he said.

Thorn, an organization that works to protect children from sexual assault through the development of protective technologies, is marking 10 years in operation.

After losing his sight, hearing, and mobility for a short time due to an autoimmune illness, Kutcher has been training for the 26.2-mile race.

Like two years ago, I had this weird, super rare form of vasculitis that, like, knocked out my vision, it knocked out my hearing, it knocked out, like, all my equilibrium,” the “Just Married” star explained on “Running Wild with Bear Grylls: The Challenge” earlier this month, adding that it took about a year to regain strength and his senses.

According to the Mayo Clinic, vasculitis is an extremely rare autoimmune illness that can result in inflammation of the blood vessels and subsequent blood flow obstruction.

Kutcher, it seems, has made a full recovery.
