According to a classified intelligence study recently sent to the White House and important members of Congress, the U.S. Energy Department has concluded that the Covid epidemic most likely resulted from a laboratory leak.
In an update to a 2021 document, the office of Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines notes the Energy Department’s change of heart after it had earlier expressed uncertainty about how the virus originated.
The new analysis emphasizes how various intelligence community segments have reached varying conclusions regarding the pandemic’s genesis. The Energy Department has now joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation in claiming that a mistake at a Chinese facility was most likely how the virus spread.

Two agencies are unsure, but four other agencies and a national intelligence body remain of the opinion that it was most likely the outcome of natural transmission. The Energy Department’s judgment, which is based on fresh information, is crucial since the organization is well-versed in science and in charge of a network of national laboratories around the United States, some of which carry out cutting-edge biological research.
Those who have reviewed the classified study claim that the Energy Department made their decision with “poor confidence.” The FBI previously concluded, with “moderate confidence,” that the pandemic in 2021 was most likely caused by a lab leak. The FBI continues to hold this position.
The National Bioforensic Analysis Center, which was founded at Fort Detrick, Maryland, in 2004 to examine anthrax and other potential biological threats, supports the FBI and has a staff of microbiologists, immunologists, and other scientists working for it.
US authorities declined to provide further information on the new information and analysis which caused the Energy Department to change its stance. They continued by saying that although both the Energy Department and the FBI believe an accidental lab leak is most plausible, their reasoning varied.
The revised dossier emphasizes how intelligence agencies are still piecing Covid-19’s origins together. The pandemic, which started more than three years ago, has claimed more than one million American lives.
According to the new study, the National Intelligence Council, which does long-term strategic research, and four agencies that officials declined to name continue to have “low confidence” that the virus spread naturally from an infected animal.

According to those who have read the confidential assessment, the Central Intelligence Agency and another agency that officials declined to name are still debating whether the lab leak or natural transmission explanations are correct.
