Hailey Bieber Life-changing Mini-Stroke: A Turning Point in Her Life Story

In 2022, Hailey Bieber is thinking back on her “life-changing” mini-stroke. On Friday, March 10, the 26-year-old model and wife of Justin Bieber posted a video to her Instagram Story to commemorate the year anniversary of a medical emergency that sent her to the hospital with symptoms similar to a stroke.

She was later diagnosed with Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO), a cardiac defect caused by a hole that did not correctly heal at birth. In her Instagram Story, Bieber posted a link to a nearly one-year-old YouTube video in which she discussed her PFO and said, “Can’t believe it’s been one year since I suffered a mini-stroke that leads to my PFO diagnosis.

Given that a year has passed since such a life-altering incident, she stated,

“I wanted to offer all the information I’ve learned about PFO and share resources to contribute.” In a subsequent post, the creator of Rhode skincare provided PFO statistics from UCLA Health, adding that it “affects 20% of all humans” and is “the most prevalent congenital heart condition.”

According to the article, PFO occurs “60% of the time among first-degree relatives” and is “expected to occur in 60% of people who have a stroke without a recognized etiology.” Bieber uploaded a 12-minute video in April 2022 in which she detailed the “extremely scary experience” that started while she and her pop star husband were having breakfast.

Medical scans performed after she was transported to the hospital due to stroke-like symptoms revealed a small blood clot brought on by a Transient Ischemic Attack in her brain (TIA). She was eventually found to have a “grade 5 PFO,” which indicates that the blood clot had made its way to her heart. She got a PFO closure operation subsequently.

The model admitted earlier this year that the encounter had left her with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

“I had a lot of worries thereafter. On the Run-Through with Vogue podcast in January, Bieber admitted that he had experienced some mild PTSD due to the concern that it would happen again. “I simply felt like I never wanted to go through that feeling again. In every aspect you could imagine, it was so terrible, shocking, and disorienting.
