A stretch of Hollywood Boulevard’s bustling tourist district was affected by a neighborhood-wide power outage, which affected Ovation Hollywood, the venue for Sunday night’s Academy Awards. The outage was first reported on Saturday afternoon at about 1 p.m.
The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, which is across the street from the Dolby and where many A-list celebrities get ready for the Oscars red carpet, has gone through a series of power outages and recoveries. Several important locations, including the credential and safety offices, in the commercial district once known as Hollywood & Highland, went entirely dark.
The Ovation website includes the Dolby Theater, which will play host to the Oscars event on Sunday. After a brief interior power outage, according to sources close to the Academy, the Dolby auditorium’s electricity was quickly restored. The rehearsal schedule is being followed. The Oscars are attempting to be more environmentally friendly, but this clearly wasn’t the idea, a staff member told Variety.

At about 3 p.m., the site’s power was brought back. The credential offices are once again open for business. The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power was being consulted on a repair, the Academy personnel advised attendees to wait for the red carpet and show credentials. According to reporters on the scene, the red carpet’s power was restored within an hour.
On Sunday night, Jimmy Kimmel will host the Oscars once more, making this the late-night star’s third time presiding over the event. He was the show’s host in 2017 and 2018. The Oscars resumed their regular format for the 2017 ceremony after going two years without a host, and Amy Schumer, Wanda Sykes, and Regina Hall were chosen for the position. On Sunday at 5 p.m. PT, ABC will broadcast the 95th Academy Awards live from the Dolby.
