Actor Sam Neill Revealed That He is Being Treated for Stage-three Blood Cancer

In a candid memoir to be released on Tuesday, actor Sam Neill revealed that he is being treated for stage-three blood cancer.

Sam Neill, the ‘Jurassic Park’ star, has revealed that he is undergoing treatment for stage 3 blood cancer. After being diagnosed with stage three blood cancer, Sam Neill is undergoing chemotherapy. The 75-year-old “Jurassic Park” star revealed his diagnosis in a Friday interview with The Guardian.

The Jurassic Park actor, now 75 years old, opens his memoir, Did I Ever Tell You This?, with a startling revelation about his own mortality, which he discusses in an interview with The Guardian about his memoir.

“The thing is, I’m crook. Possibly dying,” he writes in chapter one, “I may have to speed this up.”

Before Neill began treatment for cancer last year, he began writing personal anecdotes to pass the time and ease the pain of his illness.

Neill said in the interview-

“I found myself with nothing to do. And I’m used to working. I love working. I love going to work. I love being with people every day and enjoying human company and friendship and all these things. And suddenly I was deprived of that. And I thought, what am I going to do?”

“I never had any intention to write a book. But as I went on and kept writing, I realised it was actually sort of giving me a reason to live and I would go to bed thinking, I’ll write about that tomorrow … that will entertain me. And so it was a lifesaver really, because I couldn’t have gone through that with nothing to do, you know.”

With the release of his memoir, Did I Ever Tell You This? for which Meryl Streep, Laura Dern, and Stephen Fry all provided cover line endorsements, Neill proved himself to be an exceptional storyteller. The book chronicles his life from the age of seven in Ireland to his adulthood in New Zealand and the eccentricities of his family (co-stars behaving badly, take note).

He stated that his book is not a cancer memoir, but rather that his illness serves as a “spiral thread” throughout the narrative.

Neill was diagnosed with angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma after experiencing swelling in his lymph nodes in March of last year, during publicity for Jurassic World Dominion. Although he is now cancer-free, he will continue to receive chemotherapy once a month for the rest of his life due to the side effects of the initial drug.

“I can’t pretend that the last year hasn’t had its dark moments,” he said. “But those dark moments throw the light into sharp relief, you know, and have made me grateful for every day and immensely grateful for all my friends. Just pleased to be alive.”

Actor Sam Neill, whose career spans from the 1970s to the present and includes more than 150 roles ranging from My Brilliant Career to The Piano to Jurassic Park to Peaky Blinders, is getting ready to begin filming in Australia on the television adaptation of Liane Moriarty’s bestselling novel Apples Never Fall, opposite Annette Bening.
