HYBE Remains Uncertain About BTS Contract Renewal and 2025 Comeback!

As the seven members of the K-pop band BTS pursue separate careers and fulfill obligatory military service obligations, NOTHING is specific for the future of BTS. The split wasn’t expected to last too long; BTS was supposed to get back together “as a group again around 2025,” as the label BigHit Music put it when the announcement was made in October.

However, Bang Si-hyuk, the chairman of the label’s parent business HYBE, dashed hopes that the group’s comeback would still occur on that schedule during a press conference this week. “We said we ‘hope’ the members can resume in 2025, not ‘will,’” the chairman revealed, as reported by K-Pop Herald. “BTS and the firm will both work for it, but it doesn’t mean we can target then.”

Out of the seven members of BTS, only Jin has started his mandatory 21 months of military service in South Korea. While he’s been keeping fans updated on his enlistment status, the rest of the band has been busy with their solo projects, notably J-Hope.

“The enlistment schedules (of each member) are private information, so I cannot speak about it here. But we will disclose the dates in order transparently once their schedules are confirmed,” Si-hyuk said during the press conference concerning the other members.

Although he didn’t have much more to contribute, the chairman also touched on the unclear future of the septets’ contract renewal. He defended the delay by saying, “We still have time left (until the contract ends). “We’ll discuss (with the members) within the time, and I believe it will be right for us to speak about it after the discussion ends.”

Fans of BTS, who number in the millions, don’t seem to mind the uncertainty because they have faith in the band anyway. Speaking with EFE last week, RM reflected on BTS’s history and potential for the future. I think BTS will make it,” he said. “It will come together again when we finish our military service, and we will look for new synergies between us to enter a second phase. But, in any case, nothing lasts forever.”
