Over a month after going missing, Jeffrey Vandergrift, a well-liked DJ for a San Francisco radio station, was discovered dead, according to authorities. Vandergrift, better known as JV on WiLD 94.9, KYLD, was last seen on February 23 at his San Francisco residence at 10 p.m.

According to San Francisco police, he was deemed “at risk.” Wednesday, a body was discovered close to Pier 39. The body’s identity was verified by the medical examiner on Thursday.

The radio station released a statement on Twitter that read,  “We are devastated to know that JV is gone. Please remember to pray for Natasha, his wife, and his family and close friends.”

Authorities haven’t given any more information, and the cause of death hasn’t been disclosed. The physical symptoms of Lyme disease are terrible, but once these microorganisms pass the blood-brain barrier, what they do to the brain cannot truly be described, wrote 55-year-old Vandergrift on Facebook last year.

His wife, Natasha Yi, said on Facebook on March 2 that he had endured “physical torment” for the previous two years and thanked the public for its support.

According to his biography on the radio station’s website, Vandergrift was born and raised in Fremont, California, and discovered his passion for radio in high school. He started his own radio program called the Dog House by the time he was 25.
