After almost 12 years of marriage, Reese Witherspoon and former CAA agency Jim Toth made their impending divorce public on Friday.

Witherspoon and Toth released a statement together that was shared on Instagram: “It is with a great deal of care and consideration that we have made the difficult decision to divorce. We have enjoyed so many wonderful years together and are moving forward with deep love, kindness, and mutual respect for everything we have created together. Our biggest priority is our son and our entire family as we navigate this next chapter. These matters are never easy and are extremely personal. We truly appreciate everyone’s respect for our family’s privacy at this time.”

The couple was planning to mark their 12-year wedding anniversary on Sunday. They got married in March 2011. Tennessee James, their 10-year-old son, is also theirs. Ava and Deacon are Witherspoon’s two children from her first marriage to Ryan Phillippe.

When Toth worked as a talent agent for Creative Artists Agency—where Witherspoon is a client—they got to know one another. He departed the organization in 2019 to join the now-defunct streamer Quibi.

Even though Witherspoon and Toth had a relatively discreet relationship, the couple became involved in a scandal in 2013 when they were detained and briefly imprisoned in Atlanta, Georgia after Toth was stopped on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Although Witherspoon was detained for disruptive behavior, Toth was charged with DUI. While Toth entered a plea of guilty to a minor DUI and was sentenced to perform community service, enroll in an alcohol education program, and pay a fine, she entered a plea of no contest and was compelled to pay court costs.

Through her production company Hello Sunshine, which has produced acclaimed movies and TV shows like “Gone Girl,” “Big Little Lies,” “The Morning Show,” “Daisy Jones & the Six,” and the rom-com starring Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher, “Your Place or Mine,” Witherspoon has emerged as one of the industry’s most sought-after producers in recent years.

For $900 million in 2021, Witherspoon sold a portion of the business to Candle Media, which is owned by Blackstone and is run by Kevin A. Mayer and Tom Staggs.
