Sister Act 3 Storyline
Exciting news! Sister Act has returned. In 1992, thanks to Whoopi Goldberg’s excellent performance, we were introduced to a skilled yet rambunctious nightclub singer in disguise who raised a ruckus in a convent and ultimately revamped the Catholic choir in the funniest way possible.
Goldberg returned to her routine a year later and her efforts saved a failing school that had been slated for closure. Furthermore, as paradoxical as it may seem, the sequel to Sister Act found a devoted fan base among Catholics and non-Catholics alike while receiving mostly poor reviews.
In the third installment of the Sister Act series, the comedienne and EGOT winner once again dons the habit and revives her nun character. Undoubtedly, the third installment has improved greatly.
Goldberg flatly rejected the idea once, on the 20th anniversary of Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit. She first said no, but by 2017 she was considering it since she was worried the film wouldn’t be completed without the rest of the group.
Yet, it wasn’t until 2018 that plans for a third Sister Act film were put into action. The cautious but steady progress toward the sequel that has been planned for the past 30 years continues.
Sadly, we don’t know much about the plot of this long-awaited sequel other than that it will continue the upbeat tone of the original two films. As Goldberg stated on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the screenplay did indeed arrive in November of last year, and while she “truly enjoyed it,” it still has to “go through many @dults.”
What’s more, we’re assured this tale is “just what the country needs right now.” Despite the lack of specifics, one thing can be relied upon: there will be a lot of singing. After all, the incredible performances of the greatest songs wouldn’t constitute the backbone of Sister Act.
