Gordon participated in collegiate basketball for the University of Connecticut, where he earned a national title in 2004 and played for the National Basketball Association (NBA) for 11 seasons.

Despite spending most of the season on the bench for UConn, Gordon finished second in scoring (12.6 ppg). In the Big East tournament against Villanova, he made the game-winning 3-pointer.
As a sophomore, Gordon led the Huskies in assists with 156, averaged 19.5 points per game (50th in the US), and was named to the Second Team All-Big East.
Gordon averaged a team-high 20.5 points (again ranking 50th in the US), 4.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists in his junior and final season at UConn. In addition, he made 104 three-pointers, which ranks as the second-highest total in a single season in UConn history.
With 81 points overall, Gordon set a Big East Tournament record and was named the competition’s Most Outstanding Performer. Gordon also received the NCAA tournament’s Phoenix Regional Most Outstanding Player accolades.
