Sprint Car Driver Justin Owen Dies in Indiana Speedway Crash

The U.S. Auto Club said that sprint car driver Justin Owen of Harrison, Ohio, passed away as a result of injuries he sustained when his vehicle collided during a race in southeast Indiana.

At Lawrenceburg Raceway on Saturday night during a qualification race for the AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship, Owen’s car slammed into the outside wall and flipped many times in the third turn, according to USAC. Following the incident, USAC decided to call off the rest of the race.

According to USAC, the 26-year-old Owen won two features at Lawrenceburg Raceway and was the current track champion in 2022. It was Owen’s first victory at the 3/8-mile dirt circuit, where he had previously raced in the sprint car class.
