An escaped prisoner from Mississippi was finally caught in Texas after being looked for in several states. This stopped a tense search that had gone on for several days. The prisoner had gotten out of a Mississippi state jail and was on the run.

Mississippi Escaped Inmate Captured in Texas
According to authorities, a prisoner who escaped from a Mississippi jail over the weekend has been apprehended and taken into custody in Texas. The Hinds County Sheriff’s Office reported that Jerry Raynes was being detained outside of Houston in Spring Valley, Texas and that he will be returned to Mississippi by extradition.
On Saturday night, Raynes and three other inmates—Casey Grayson, Corey Harrison, and Dylan Arrington—broke free from the Raymond Detention Center outside Jackson, the capital of Mississippi. Arrington, who police said shot an officer Wednesday morning and was suspected of being involved in the shooting death of a pastor after his escape, was discovered dead later that night after a fire broke out in the building he had barricaded himself in.
Thursday night, Grayson and Harrison were still evading capture. The ongoing hunt for the two was not updated by the authorities. Raynes had served time in prison for burglary and motor theft. Raynes was spotted at a nearby hospital on Thursday afternoon, and someone alerted the police, according to CBS affiliate KHOU-TV. According to KHOU, he had previously been captured on security footage at a gas station along Interstate 10 in that vicinity.
After seeking care for an undisclosed medical ailment, Raynes was arrested at a hospital in Houston before he could be released, according to the U.S. Marshals Service. Raynes was apprehended with assistance from the USMS, Harris County Sheriff’s Office, and Spring Valley Police Department, according to the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez told KHOU, “We’re just happy an arrest was made. Gonzalez continued, “He was taken into custody fairly quickly, and, so, again, we’re glad that it’s over and that no one was hurt here in our community.”
The Raymond Detention Center’s four inmates are thought to have broken out through openings in a cell and the roof. The males may have camped overnight on the roof before running away and going their separate ways, according to Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones.
U.S. District Judge Carlton Reeves issued an unusual takeover order for the Raymond jail in July after claiming that inadequate personnel and supervision were to blame for “a stunning array of assaults, as well as deaths.” Nevertheless, the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals stayed the lower court’s order until it made a decision on the county’s motion for reconsideration, delaying the appointed receiver’s expected takeover of the jail on January 1.
The Raymond facility has long-standing issues. In 2016, the U.S. Justice Department filed a lawsuit against Hinds County after discovering unlawful circumstances at the facility, including assault by staff members and other inmates. Additionally, it discovered issues with how juveniles and suicidal inmates were handled. Additionally, it claimed that some cell doors would not lock.
The four fugitives had been detained on many felony offenses, most of which involved theft. Anthony Watts, a 61-year-old church pastor, was shot and died Monday night at 7 p.m. on Interstate 55 in Jackson after he pulled over to assist a guy who matched Arrington’s description.
Watts is the man who Arrington is suspected of killing. According to authorities, the person shot Watts multiple times before stealing his red Dodge Ram. Watts expired there and then. Later, Arrington broke into a house in Conway, Mississippi, where he killed a deputy by shooting him and then set the house on fire.
