Fans of Harry Potter received a welcome surprise from Google on Sunday morning. Google created a stunning Google Doodle as an homage to British actor Alan Rickman. Social media was used by followers to spread it and pay tribute to the adored actor who pass*d away.
Alan Rickman was well-known for his roles as the dreaded and misunderstood Professor Snape in the Harry Potter films, the ruthless antagonist Hans Gruber in Di* Hard, the gentlemanly Colonel Brandon in Sense and Sensibility, and even the voice of Marvin the Paranoid Android in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
Alan Rickman made his Broadway debut in Les Liaisons Dangereuses on this day in 1987, helping to establish his career. He even won a Tony for his performance as the anti-hero Le Vicomte de Valmont.

Throughout his career, he also received a Golden Globe and an Emmy, and despite his reputation for playing the “baddie” he was also praised for his sensitive performances in movies like Truly Madly Deeply and Love, Actually.
He gained international recognition for his outstanding depiction of Professor Snape. When Alan pass*d away from pancreatic cancer in 2016, it devastated every Harry Potter enthusiast. Many people paid the actor tribute by using his movie line “always.”
J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series, gave Alan Rickman “one tiny, left-of-field piece of information” about Snape, the actor recalled to HitFix in 2011. “It helped me think that he was more complicated and that the story was not going to be as straight down the line as everybody thought. If you remember when I did the first film she’d only written three or four books, so nobody knew where it was really going except her. And it was important for her that I know something, but she only gave me a tiny piece of information which helped me think it was a more ambiguous route.” When asked what the tiny info was, she said, “I told Alan what lies behind the word ‘always’.”
