Vigil Held Monday In Memory Of Cheney High School Student Killed In “Tragic Accident”

On Monday night in Cheney, a candlelight vigil will be held in memory of the high school student who passed away on Thursday.

Brayden Bahme, a student at Cheney High School, will be remembered at a vigil on Monday at 6 o’clock at Crunk’s Field in Cheney. Participants are asked to dress in blue or a shirt bearing Bahme’s soccer numbers 7 and 7, on the back.

Cheney High School posted on Facebook, “As our community continues to grieve his loss, we would like to invite everyone to come together to honor Brayden and support his family.”

On April 27, Bahme tragically went away from injuries sustained in his fourth-period P.E. session. According to Cheney Fire Chief Tom Jenkins, Bahme was jogging when he slid against a goalpost and was pierced through the eye.

Within a minute, emergency personnel arrived and took him to Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital, where he eventually passed away from his wounds.

A little white candle to be lit during the vigil on Monday night and a fishing-related object to be placed on Bahme’s memorial and donated to a youth fishing group are requested of those who plan to attend.

The family of Bahme has posted a note on their website expressing their sorrow over the death of their loved one. To support the family’s immediate needs and pay for Brayden’s ultimate funeral expenses, they have also launched a GoFundMe page. With the remaining money, a child fishing program will be developed in memory of Brayden, also known as “fish pockets” Bahme.

“This is a trying time for all, especially for Brayden’s family and close friends,” Cheney High School wrote. “I look forward to our community gathering together to support each other and share some love and happy memories in this time of grief.”
