Soon after, Christina Aistrup Hansen was taken into custody. The trial became one of the most essential things the Danish news media covered. As you can see in this story, the nurse became known as the “Devil of Death” (ddsdjaevel) in Denmark. It was proven that she was the one who injected those patients with morphine and valium.
She was given a life term in 2016 for three murders and one attempted murder. On February 28, 2015, another patient survived because Christina injected them with drugs. But in 2017, the sentence was changed to 12 years, and the charge was changed to “attempted murder” because it was impossible to show that morphine and diazepam were the direct cause of death.
As of 2023, Christina Aistrup Hansen is still in a Danish jail serving her time. She was diagnosed with Histrionic personality disorder, a type of personality disorder that causes people to get too much attention. This diagnosis says she gave the patients drugs to save them immediately, except that she couldn’t do it three out of four times.
Kristian Corfixen talked to Christina Aistrup Hansen in jail while he was writing The Nurse, which was based on her real life. She said, “Many people here talk about getting to a point where you accept your own opinion. But I haven’t reached that point yet.” She also said she still feels a lot of anger and rage and once tried to kill herself. Her sentence will end in 2028. After that, she will be free again but won’t be able to return to work as a nurse.
