Season 44 of Survivor premieres this week, bringing 18 new castaways who will spend the next 26 days attempting to survive in the woods. Carson Garrett, 20, a NASA intern and self-proclaimed “space nerd,” will compete on the CBS show.

NASA Johnson Space Center intern Carson Garrett will be one of the 18 survivors featured in the upcoming season of the CBS show. The 20-year-old had studied Aerospace, Aeronautical, and Astronautical Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology, where he received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
Before becoming NASA L’SPACE Mission Concept Academy Project Manager, Carson worked as a part-time Information Technology Consultant at Duffy’s Deli. The finalist from Season 44 has been with Consult Your Community for nearly three years, in roles ranging from project leader to vice president of engagements and now president.

The cast member of Survivor 44 told Parade that he is participating in the CBS show because he hopes to win the game and demonstrate that “age does not define success.” Additionally, he mentioned that former competitor Christian Hubicki is someone he looks up to because of how he used his peculiarities and nerdiness to his advantage. Hubicki considered the weakest male in his tribe, utilized his charisma and wit as a weapon, according to a future cast member.
