Martin Scorsese maybe 80 years old, but the legendary director shows no signs of slowing down: his newest film, Killers of the Flower Moon, opens in limited theaters on October 6, 2023.
New from Scorsese is adapted from Eric Roth (Forrest Gump) and David Grann (Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI), both 2017 books.
The novel’s title alludes to the fact that it’s about a murder spree committed by a Native American tribe in the 1920s in Oklahoma when oil was discovered on their territory.
An all-star ensemble, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert DeNiro, Jesse Plemons, and Brendan Fraser, under the direction of director Martin Scorsese, brings his narrative to life.
This will be the actor’s sixth feature with Raging Bull director Martin Scorsese, and their first together since “The Wolf of Wall Street” in 2013. Fans will have to wait much longer to see what Scorsese has cooked up, since production won’t conclude until October 2021.

Killers of the Flower Moon Plot
From 1921 until 1925, over sixty members of the Osage tribe were murdered, and the event is told in Killers of the Flower Moon. The Osage Indians of Oklahoma were allowed to make money from the state’s massive oil reserves once they were found towards the end of the 19th century.
According to its citizens’ ability to generate tens of millions of dollars annually, the Osage country was widely regarded as one of the world’s most prosperous.
Murderous envy from communities that hadn’t hit it as wealthy as them fueled the federal government’s decision to appoint Caucasian guardians to “assist” in financial management.
In 1921, when the body of a rich Osage woman was discovered in the woods, these negative emotions quickly escalated into violence. Sixty or more of the Osage tribe’s affluent people had passed away by 1925.
After local cattleman William Hale hatched a sophisticated plan to seize control of the Osage oil, the FBI became involved, and Agent Tom White led the investigation.
To solidify his claim to the land, Hale had urged his nephew Ernest Burkhart to wed Mollie Kile, a native Osage woman. It’s likely reasonable to assume that under Scorsese’s direction, this narrative of racism, murder, treachery, and money will be transformed into a gritty and dramatic picture.
