The adoration of her fans has not faded. On Thursday night, Cynthia Weil, 82, died. She inspired such classics as “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling” and countless others. In a statement to TMZ, Dr. Jenn Mann, Weil’s daughter, confirmed her father’s deαth.
She reflected on her mother, Cynthia Weil, writing, “My mother, Cynthia Weil, was the greatest mother, grandmother, and wife our family could ever ask for.”
“She was my best friend, confidant, and partner in crime and an idol and trailblazer for women in music.” The official cause of deαth has not been determined at this time.
Born in New York City in 1940, Weil co-wrote many of the most memorable songs from the 1960s through the 1990s with her husband, lyricist Barry Mann.
With almost 8 million “airplay” (plays on the radio) since its release in 1964, “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling” by the Righteous Brothers is one of the most performed songs of the 20th century.
Throughout their legendary six-decade career, the husband-and-wife composer team created many additional timeless classics. Some examples are “On Broadway” by the Drifters and George Benson, “Uptown” by the Crystals, “You’re My Soul and Inspiration” by the Righteous Brothers, and “We Gotta Get Out of This Place” by the Animals.

The Grammy-winning singer and her husband of 62 years co-wrote “Here You Come Again” by Dolly Parton, a song that became a crossover hit for the country star.
Other timeless songs include “Kicks” by Paul Revere & the Raiders, “Walking in the Rain” by the Ronettes, and “Through the Fire” by Chaka Khan. Specifically, Kanye West sampled the latter for his first-ever solo track, “Through the Wire.”

Meanwhile, it’s been said that almost 200 million records of Weil’s compositions have been sold. The talents of Weil and Mann were not limited to writing hit songs for well-known performers.
The team composed “Somewhere Out There” for Steven Spielberg’s “An American Tail,” which was nominated for an Oscar and won two Grammys.
In addition to being the first recipient of the Ahmet Ertegun Award from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the songwriting duo also got the inaugural National Academy of Songwriters Life Achievement Award.
Variety stated that Weil was the first woman to be given this award. “From the bottom of my heart and with the greatest humility, I thought you guys would never ask,” the ever-humble vocalist gushed after accepting the honor.
Weil began writing in her senior years, her most famous work being the 1963-set mystery thriller “I’m Glad I Did,” published in 2015.
Family members expressed their sorrow over the loss of the meteoric talent, saying in a statement that “Cynthia Weil’s Grammy award-winning lyrics touched the hearts and souls of hundreds of millions of people around the world, making her one of the most iconic songwriters of the 20th Century.”
