Nick Taylor became a national hero when he made an eagle putt from 72 feet away to win the RBC Canadian Open. He was the first Canadian to do so in 69 years.
Most of the comments about Taylor’s fellow Canadian Adam Hadwin, who was grabbed by security while trying to celebrate, are instant classics, but it was clear that this win was important.
Taylor had to beat Tommy Fleetwood in a four-hole playoff, but as soon as the ball went into the hole, Taylor threw the putter and everyone started to cheer.

Taylor’s winning putt could be one of the most important moments in Canadian sports history. Nick Taylor’s story is now part of history. It took 69 years, but it’s over.
Jim Nantz of CBS said live during the show that his 72-foot putt is also the longest putt he has ever made.
Taylor’s last round was a 66, which put him at 17-under for the event. He made an amazing putt for a birdie on the 72nd hole, and then he made an even better putt to get rid of Fleetwood in the playoff.
Now, he is a national star, and his shot was one of the most exciting things to happen in golf this year.
