When Did Netflix Announce Its Development Deal With Shonda Rhimes for Future Productions?
On August 14, 2017, it was revealed that Rhimes had signed a development contract with Netflix, making all her future works Netflix Originals. The exclusive, multi-year contract follows the streaming service’s purchase of the rights to stream all previous seasons of “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Scandal” in the United States.

The Rhimes adaptation, titled “Inventing Anna,” will star Anna Chlumsky of “Veep” as a journalist (perhaps based on Pressler) who investigates a German heiress, played by “Ozark”s brilliant Julia Garner.
The series will consist of 10 episodes. The cast also includes Laverne Cox (“Orange Is the New Black”) and Katie Lowes (“Scandal”). According to reports, filming for “Inventing Anna” began in October 2019, giving the production plenty of time to wrap before the coronavirus pandemic halted film and television production (and everything else).
The Rhimes-created series “Bridgerton” debuted on Netflix in 2020. Rhimes and Julie Andrews team up again for this season. The series is inspired by the novels of Julia Quinn, which detail the cutthroat nature of London’s Regency-era high society.
