‘School Spirits’ Season 1 Ending Explained
Maddie has Simon investigate her mother. Simon learns of her mother’s hidden booze stashes. After searching Sandra’s room, he goes to Maddie’s since Maddie reported Sandra started hiding items there too. Simon finds an envelope Sandra was looking at in a previous episode and discovers Maddie’s necklace, which she was wearing on the day she died but didn’t have as a ghost.
They then bring Sandra to the school so Maddie can see Simon question her since she knows all her tells and when Sandra is lying. Ms. Fields (Kalyn Miles) informs Simon that Maddie won an award, and Simon suggests Sandra accept it.
Simon pretends to work on a Maddie speech in Ms. Fields’ classroom but really questions Sandra about the jewelry. She avoids the subject, one of her specialties, but he keeps pushing with Maddie’s help, and they find the truth about Sandra’s drunken arrival at the school. Sandra doesn’t reveal the truth.
Maddie recalls her mom’s visit when she feels her jewelry. Sandra arrived and told Maddie she didn’t need treatment. Maddie takes her away, and Sandra tells Maddie she bought a cabin up north she heard about in treatment.
Sandra also spent Maddie’s college fund money. Sandra claims they’ll sort it out and schools are cheaper up north, but Maddie says she’s heading to Chicago to avoid Sandra. When the bell rings, Maddie takes her mother to the boiler room, where she died.
