Osborne’s family members reportedly announced his departure on Tuesday (June 27), according to WYMT. The Kentucky native and his brother Sonny debuted as the Osborne Brothers in the 1950s.

Thanks to their tenacious percussion and faultless voice blending, the duo quickly rose to fame in the contemporary bluegrass scene. The successful songwriting duo Felice and Boudleaux Bryant’s “Rocky Top,” which was recorded by the brothers in 1967, has been the unofficial sports anthem for the University of Tennessee for more than 50 years.

The Osborne Brothers have collaborated to create over 20 albums, chart 18 singles on country radio, and win numerous awards, including being the first bluegrass group to be invited to play at the White House. The two kept performing till Sonny passed away in October 2021 at the age of 83.
